Focus on 5 Research and Innovation projects for the climate

On the #EarthDay discover 5 innovations that could have a major impact on the climate!

Renewable energy, electric vehicle, solar power, depollution, river use... Let's shape the future together.
REMORA - Renewable energy storage
remora_web_d

REMORA has been designed to be installed offshore in shallow water, near renewable energy sources such as wind turbines or solar panels in order to store the energy they produce intermittently. The use of compressed air will make it possible to feed back up to 70% of the electricity stored, compared with around 40% for similar existing systems.

The REMORA solution is patented by SEGULA Technologies. A terrestrial demonstrator has been developed in consortium with high-level technical partners such as Cetim, IMT Atlantique and the University of Nantes-IREENA. The ODySEA project is supported by ADEME and accredited by S2E2 Smart Electricity Cluster.

GREEN DELIRIVER - Clean waterway transport

The innovative GREEN DELIRIVER urban logistics concept uses the river network and the Seine to transport goods from the urban periphery to the heart of Paris. In return, GREEN DELIRIVER evacuates urban waste to treatment and recovery centers. GREEN DELIRIVER thus considers the implementation of short circuits to serve the center of Paris and reduce the impacts of road transport. Its main source of power is a bio-CNG engine supplemented by a battery pack.

Some figures :

100% locally produced renewable bio-gas
The electric drive train limits polluting emissions and the use of renewable fuel limits the production of GHG (-90% CO2, -98% Nox emitted, -98% fine particles)

This project is developed in partnership with : GRDF, Total Energies, Coalis, Chantiers de la Haute-Seine, CCI Versailles-Yvelines, ADEME, Ile-de-France Region, Grand Paris Seine & Oise, Syctom, VNF, HAROPA, SOLIDEO.

E3S : Intelligent energy management system for sailboats
E3S_desktop

E3S is an energy management tool on board the sailboat that includes a computer with Artificial Intelligence and a Human Machine Interface interacting with passengers.

E3S promotes the use of renewable energy, which has a positive impact on the environment. The system ensures the difficult compromise between maximizing passenger comfort while minimizing energy losses, favoring green energy storage systems to maximize the autonomy of the boat and ensuring its independence from polluting energy sources.

This is achieved through the optimization algorithms developed and implemented in the E3S system, which instantly ensure the balance between energy demand, renewable energy production, storage and thermal generator (energy security).

SolarStratos - Solar powered airplane
solarstratos-desktop

Launched by Swiss explorer Raphaël Domjan, the SolarStratos project consists of building a two-seater aircraft powered only by solar energy, capable of flying into the stratosphere, i.e. an altitude of between 12 and 50 kilometres, with the goal of promoting a cleaner aviation.

SEGULA is involved in the thermal, electrical and mechanical engineering of the project. This includes modeling the thermal environment of the cockpit under these extreme stratospheric conditions, evaluating the pilot’s physiological thermal state, developing a digital mannequin that reproduces his thermal sensations, and identifying the possibilities for heat recovery in the aircraft.

SOxLOW - Depollution of marine fuels
soxlow_segula_d

SOxLOW enables the desulfurization of heavy fuel oil and the fact that it can be done on-board ships for continuous treatment. This process combines different chemical and biological techniques, never used before on heavy fuel oils and enabling the ships to respect the MARPOL convention on sea pollution.
